Spring is here!
And dandelions are in bloom, But here is a new twist, Pink Dandelions!
(Taraxacum pseudoroseum). These originate in Central Asia and are a much less prolific than the common yellow dandelion. Leaves, roots, and blooms of pink dandelion are edible; they are considered slightly less bitter than the common yellow dandelion. The 1- to 2-inch blooms are pink with a lemon-cream center, making them incredibly alluring to butterflies, honeybees, and other pollinators. They are slow to germinate but once established produce hundreds of seeds
They can be germinated outdoors, but I prefer to start them indoors. I get seed starting mix from a local garden center. For pots I use large plastic cups with holes poked in the bottom. Saturate the seed starting mix and let the excess water drain. Put 5 seeds On the soil per cup. Then sprinkle the seed starter mix to barely cover the seeds. Mist the cups daily. Mine sprout in a week or two. Best temps are above 50 and below 75. They also require bright light to germinate.
Its a bit of work but well worth it!
